Terms of service

Chalk is an AI tutor. It explains a topic out loud, draws it on a board, and then practises it with your child using hints rather than answers. It is a study aid. It does not replace a teacher, therapy or medical advice, and it is not a monitoring or safeguarding service. The safeguarding policy says exactly what it does when a learner says something worrying.

An account belongs to a parent, carer or tutor, who creates a profile for each child. Children do not hold their own accounts, and under-13s must not sign up for one. Keep your sign-in details to yourself. The account holder is responsible for what is done with the profiles under it.

Pilot access is free until launch. About a month before that changes we will email you, and we will never take a payment without asking you first. After the pilot, Home is £9.99 a month. Schools are quoted separately. Prices are on the pricing page.

Ten lessons per child per day. This exists to stop automated abuse, not to ration learning, and a lesson already in progress is never cut off.

Chalk is for learning. Please don’t try to get around the hints-only rule, the short list of sites Chalk may visit, or the safeguarding pause, because each exists for the children using it. If an account is being used to abuse the service, we may pause it.

Chalk teaches from the sources it reads, and checks that its summary cites a page it actually visited. It can still be wrong, and it can mishear. Treat it as a patient tutor. For anything that matters, check against the textbook or the teacher.
